AdoptionIreland: the Adopted Peoples Association runs several meetings a year for adopted people. Most meetings focus on just two or three areas — a general background to adoption in Ireland; information and advice on tracing natural families; and information on proposed legislation which will remove the few rights adopted people already enjoy. There is also a Questions and Answer session. |

AdoptionIreland and Mathairáil Present Adoption Seminar AdoptionIreland and Mathairáil (natural mothers support group) are delighted to present an adoption seminar with Evelyn Robinson, who is a counsellor, author and natural mother based in Australia. The event will take place in Wynns Hotel, Abbey Street in Dublin on Tuesday September 20th 2005 at 7pm. Originally from Scotland, Evelyn has been working in the post adoption area for the last fifteen years and has written two books, "Adoption and Loss — The Hidden Grief" and "Adoption and Recovery — Solving the Mystery of Reunion". Evelyn has presented seminars all over the world, both to adoption professionals and to those whose lives have been affected by adoption separation. In this present climate of positive change in the area of adoption in Ireland, AdoptionIreland believes that Evelyn's presentation will stimulate productive debate and discussion of the issues surrounding adoption. Reunited with her son for 14 years, Evelyn is an incredible source of wisdom, combining her personal experience of having been separated from her son by adoption with her professional experience as a counsellor in the post-adoption field. Evelyn Robinson says of her presentation: "What I focus on is the impact on people's lives of having been separated from a family member by adoption and how they can accommodate their experience of adoption separation into their lives. I talk about the meaning of the reunion experience and how it can lead to healing. " The seminar will also explore the ways in which people can help themselves, the ways in which the broader community can help and the ways in which governments can help in the path towards healing. AdoptionIreland's sister organisation Know My Own will also be hosting a seminar by Evelyn Robinson in the Ardmanning Hotel in Cork on Thursday 22nd September 2005.
