Bastard Nation

Bastard Nation: Bastard Nation is an organisation dedicated to the equal treatment and dignity of all adopted citizens. We advocate for equal treatment under the law in the form of equal access to our original birth certificates and adoption decrees. We advocate against negative stereotypes of adoption and adopted people. We respect and provide resources for the full spectrum of adoptee experience. DCI Defence for Children international (DCI) is an independent non-governmental organisation set up during the International Year of the Child (1979) to ensure on-going, practical, systematic and concerted international action specially directed towards promoting and protecting the rights of the child.

One In FourOne In Four: One In Four offers a voice to and support for people who have been subject to rape and abuse. Research has consistently shown that one in four children will experience sexual abuse before the age of 18. Society has thus far been unwilling to face up to either the deep-rooted nature of this problem or to the sheer scale of the long-term damage it leaves in its wake.

Parent Finders of Canada:* began in Vancouver, B.C., Canada in August 1974, to provide a support group for adult adoptees, birth relatives and adopting parents. Today, there are 30 PARENT FINDERS chapters active across Canada plus New York and Michigan states. We also maintain strong ties with 17 activist groups throughout the United States, England, Australia and New Zealand.

The primary aim of PARENT FINDERS is to promote a feeling of openness and understanding about adoption and lobby for open records legislation.

Jewish Genealogical Records in Ireland

LDS: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints runs the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. The FHL has one of the most impressive collections of genealogical material in the world. Many of the resources of the Family History Library are available through Family History Centers located throughout the world.

The Public Records Office (UK): The Public Record Office is the repository of the national archives for England, Wales and the United Kingdom. It was founded by act of Parliament in 1838 to bring together and preserve the records of central government and the courts of law, and to make them available to all who wish to consult them. The records, beginning with Domesday Book (1086), span an unbroken period from the 11th century to the present. This site has a comprehensive list of links to family research resources.

T.I.A.R.A. — The Irish Ancestral Research Association. TIARA is a nonprofit organization established to develop and promote the growth, study and exchange of ideas among people and organizations interested in Irish genealogical and historical research and education. Excellent site with lots of genealogical resources.

UK Birth Adoption Register A new online reunion registry similar to our own Irish Adoption Contact Register. NOT a free service. They're a bit behind us in number of matches, but give them time :-)

Broadcasting Commission of Ireland: The oversight authority for all licensed independent Irish radio and TV broadcasters. Our link is to their list of all licensed operators, from where you can access individual radio and TV stations' own websites. Many have live Internet feeds available which can be accessed using Windows Media Player, Real Player, etc.

Anna Brown: Website of one of the first women to be reunited with her now-adult child through the Irish Adoption Contact Register.

Paddy Doyle: Best selling author and disabled rights activist Paddy Doyle whose book "The God Squad" shocked Ireland a decade ago, has accused Wexford people of conspiring to keep his true identity from him.

Looking In Cris DeHart, an adoptee born on 01/16/53 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He has been searching for several years for his birth parents and his roots. His results are that his birth and adoption was that of the gray/black market. His endless search has led him to creating this page in the hope of finding them, spreading the awareness of illegal adoptions, and helping others who are searching.

Mari Steed: Mari was born in Ireland and adopted to the United States.  She maintains resource pages of interest to Irish-born adopted people on her site, a page devoted to the Magdalene Laundries, and currently serves as AdoptionIreland US Coordinator.
