In this section you will find basic information about the AdoptionIreland: The Adopted Peoples Association (APA). This section will be expanded shortly to include our policy documents and publications. |
AdoptionIreland: The Adopted Peoples Association (APA) is the representative organisation for adopted people in the Republic of Ireland. Our definition of adopted people is broadened to include:
- Those who are legally adopted
- Those subject to informal and/or de facto (a person who is registered as being the natural child of the adoptive parents) adoption
- Those who were in long-term foster care
- Those who were effectively raised by the State in residential or institutional care.
|
The primary goal of the APA is to seek legislative change to benefit adopted people and their natural families. The APA believes that the Government has an obligation to provide adequate post-adoption State services. Until legislation is passed to provide State services, we will continue to campaign on behalf of adopted people.
|
The main objectives for which the APA is established are:
- To promote and represent the interests of adopted people
- To seek improvements in legislation relating to adoption
- To seek improvements in services relating to adoption
- To promote openness in adoption legislation, practice and procedure
- To conduct and/or promote research into adoption
- To acquire and disseminate information on all matters relating to adoption
- To provide a forum for discussion on all matters relating to adoption.
